Peer Ambassadors will serve as mentors and guides to students from partner community colleges, helping them navigate the academic and social transitions required for successful transfer. This role includes providing culturally responsive mentoring, promoting a sense of belonging, and assisting with academic planning, financial aid navigation, and general transfer preparation.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Community College Partners: Work closely with the Office of New Student Programs, Admissions, and CUNY community college partners, to promote the Baruch College transfer pathway and engage students in preparatory activities.
- Mentoring and Coaching: Offer mentorship to community college students, offering guidance on academic pathways, transfer requirements, financial aid processes, and career development.
- Community Building: Create a welcoming and supportive environment for students to feel confident and prepared for their transfer to Baruch College.
- Recruitment and Engagement: Actively recruit students from community colleges to participate in pre-transfer activities and ensure they are connected to resources that will facilitate a smooth transition to Baruch.
- Student Support & Workshops: Lead and participate in both in-person and virtual workshops and events for community college students, focusing on important transfer-related topics such as application procedures, financial literacy, career exploration and more.
- Support Transition Planning: Help students understand Baruch College’s academic offerings, policies, and available support systems. Advise them on navigating the challenges of transitioning from community college to a four-year institution.
- Assist with Admissions Events: Support Baruch undergraduate admissions and onboarding events and engage with transfer students.
- Check-in on Transfer Progress: Maintain regular contact with students to encourage them to attend our workshops, check-in on their transfer application progress and actively support students to transfer. Assist students in addressing any challenges they encounter in their path toward Baruch College.
- Collaborate with NSP: Consistently meet with the NSP team to ensure the effective execution of the transfer preparation program. Provide feedback and insights from community college students to help improve the program.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Document and report interactions with students, providing input on student engagement, challenges, and successes. Assist with program assessment by collecting data on transfer readiness, retention, and student outcomes.
- Peer Ambassador Team Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow Peer Ambassadors and the New Student Programs team as active thought partners for Peer Ambassador initiatives.
Requirements:
