Research Currently in Progess

Hahn, A.(n.d.). Lands of Scarcity and Sacrifice. In Progress.

Previously with the working title: Argumentative Exchanges in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Research for this project was funded through a PSC CUNY Enhanced grant. All research for this project is now complete and I am beginning to work on the manuscript and book proposal. Thus far approximately 60 pages of the text is complete. Portions of the book were presented to the American Society for the History of Rhetoric and the Environmental Communication division of the International Communication Association. I aim to submit this text to Cornell University Press’ Series on Land, which requires a full manuscript for submission.

Hahn, A.(n.d.). NSF Grant Proposal: Mobile Technologies in Nomadic / Herder Communication . In Progress.

I am preparing to resubmit my proposal for the NSF Science, Technology and Society directive in early 2020. This grant will examine the ways that herding communities are utilizing, adapting, and interpreting mobile technologies to participate in national and international deliberations about conservation and conservation parks.

Hahn, A.(n.d.). The New Public Screen: Virtual Reality as a tool for Advocacy and Awareness. In Progress.

This paper will examine the use of VR by organizations ranging from UNESCO to the New York Times as a way to engage viewers in new experiences. I will ask if and how these productions engage and transform audience empathy and engagement. Research for this paper is complete, as is the first 10 pages of text, I expect to submit the paper to the Journal of New Media & Society in January 2020.

Hahn, A.(n.d.). The Tragedy of the Tragedy of the Commons. In Progress.

This project, which will either become a journal article or a short (aprox. 40,000 word) manuscript, examines the global use and implications of Garrett Hardin's metaphor of the tragedy of the commons.

Logemann, M., & Hahn, A.(n.d.). Working title: Corporate Communication Reframed by Digitization . In Progress.

Three decades of rapid evolution of technology has had a revolutionary impact on the profession and practice of corporate communication. Our longitudinal study explores this revolution, and makes suggestions how it should inform future research and theory developments in corporate communication. As part of this ongoing research, we are developing a long-term research study on the changing communicative norms and especially the use of emojis in professional communication. First manuscript underway, to be submitted this spring 2021.
