Dr. D’Souza is a development economist who studies issues related to food security and nutrition, price shocks, conflict, governance, and trade. Dr. D’Souza received a BS in Finance and Economics from the Stern School of Business at NYU, summa cum laude, and an MS and PhD in Economics from UCLA.

Before joining Baruch, she worked as a research economist at the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where she received the
USDA Secretary’s Honor Award. She has worked as an adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, a consultant for the World Bank, and a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal.

Dr. D’Souza has been a Provost Innovation Fellow for Inclusive Teaching and a Transformative Learning in the Humanities Fellow. She co-facilitates the Schwartz Communication Institute’s Inclusive Pedagogy Seminar and also organizes DEI Fridays. She has served on the Executive Committee of the Baruch Faculty Senate and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the University Faculty Senate. She is currently the  Chair of the Ackerman Lecture Series in Inequality and Social Justice. In 2020, Dr. D’Souza received the Baruch College Presidential Excellence Award for Service.
