British-born Eugene Marlow, MBA, Ph.D. is the Senior Professor in the Department of Journalism and the Writing Professions. Over a decades-long professional life he has established an international reputation in non-fiction books and articles, music, and documentaries.

Of Dr. Marlow’s 10 books, Electronic Public Relations (1996) was translated into Greek (1998) and Russian (2002), and WebVisions (1997) into Japanese (1998). He has published 400+ articles and chapters in 60+ print and online domestic and international publications. His latest book, Jazz in China: From Dance Hall Music to Individual Freedom of Expression (University Press of Mississippi 2018), was deemed “one of the five best books of 2018” by the Jazz Journalists Association. Jazz in China can be found in 282 libraries in 21 countries (including the United States).

Professor Marlow has composed and arranged over 300 pieces of music in various jazz, Afro-Caribbean, Brazilian, and classical genres for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, and big band. Four of his charts for big band appear on four Grammy-nominated albums. His music has been broadcast on 236 domestic and international radio stations, including WBGO, the most listened to jazz radio station on the planet.

Dr. Marlow has produced over 500 video and radio programs that have garnered 30 awards for programming excellence from domestic and international competitions. His 2022 feature-length documentary “Jazz in China” was accepted by 11 film festivals and received an “Award of Excellence” from the 2022 Depth of Field International Film Festival and was the winner of the 2022 American Insight “Free Speech Film Festival.”

Professor Marlow is currently serving a second term as chair of Baruch’s Educational Technology Committee. He previously served for 18 years as senior curator of Baruch’s Milt Hinton Jazz Perspectives concert series.

Dr. Marlow has earned a Ph.D. (1988), MBA (1972), MA (music 2001), BS (music (1998), and a BA (English 1966).

This memoir is an account of the Lebanese-born, Paris Conservatory trained pianist Nada Loutfi. Dr. Marlow is serving as editor and co-author of this memoir projected to run about 35,000 words. A transcription of a seven-hour interview with Ms. Loutfi is in process.

This book is a memoir of the author's life, from child born in London, England during World War II to now. The narrative is written in a voice directed at the author's two twin sons, now in their early thirties.

A book proposal recently submitted to Lexington Books at its request. The prospective work is based on previously developed research and blogs written by Dr. Marlow on his Marlowsphere Blog and in other published works dealing wth media & culture.

Marlow, E.(n.d.). The Musical Icons of Marc Chagall. In Progress.

Research into the musical icons of artist Marc Chagall as found in many of his 10,000 works. So far, over 70 works found that include at least one musical icon. Over a dozen musical instrments--mostly string and woodwind instruments--identified. This research will lead to a pictorial lecture and a 30+ minute third-stream oriented suite.
