Professor Albright is a clinical psychologist who received his Ph.D. from CUNY in Experimental Cognition with concentrations in neuropsychology and applied psychophysiology. He is a former chair of the Department of Psychology at Baruch College whose research involves evaluating the efficacy of virtual human role-play simulations that teach people how to manage challenging conversations in the areas of health and behavioral health. This is accomplished by learners entering an online environment where they practice using evidenced-based communication strategies such as motivational interviewing with virtual humans coded with emotions, memory and personality, and will respond like real people in psychological distress. It is by practicing these conversations, and receiving ongoing feedback from a virtual coach, that learners gain the ability to identify individuals in psychological distress, how to approach them to discuss concerns and if necessary, make an appropriate referral. His research has resulted in numerous publications that demonstrate the efficacy of virtual role-play simulations in pre-K12, higher education, and healthcare settings that address suicide prevention, substance use, bullying, trauma, coping with loss, and parenting. His passion for applying advanced simulation technology and learning models to the fields of health is fueled by a desire to make an impact on the quality-of-life of the large numbers of people who are struggling and would benefit from engaging game-based web and mobile simulations to equip them with the knowledge, skill, and self-confidence necessary to have a positive impact on their lives and those of the people they care about.
