- Biography
Dr. Harold W. Goldstein is a professor of industrial and organizational psychology at Baruch College, The City University of New York. He received his doctoral degree in I/O psychology from the University of Maryland in 1993 and joined the faculty at Baruch College in 1997. His primary areas of expertise are in personnel selection, managerial assessment, and leadership development. He is best known for his work on how to develop valid selection systems that reduce adverse impact based on race and gender to facilitate hiring a diverse talented workforce. He is also known for his performance psychology work on assessing talent in sports. His research has been published in top journals and books of the field including Personnel Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Business and Psychology. He was the lead editor of the Handbook of the Psychology of Recruitment, Selection, and Employee Retention. In addition, his work on designing intelligence tests has earned him and his team the M. Scott Myers Award for Applied Research from the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Innovation Award from the International Personnel Assessment Council. He has served as an expert on legal issues involving personnel selection and has consulted with both private and public organizations and on a wide variety of human resource-focused services. He has taught classes on topics such as personnel staffing, organizational behavior, and leadership and managerial development. He also serves as the director of the Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology program at Baruch College.
